story
international social entrepreneurship accelerator NewDoor started operating in 2013, becoming the first accelerator of this kind in the Baltic States. During the first two years the accelerator followed the educational program of an Israeli-American SE education company PresenTense.
At the end of 2015, the main donor of NewDoor, the Jewish Agency for Israel, could not continue to support the project any longer and Diana Lapkis, the founder and director, was put before a decision of either concluding NewDoor activities in Latvia or finding a way to raise the project to a new level. She invited her associates and NewDoor mentors Maria Povilaite and Olga Kotova to join the board and rearranged perspectives and activities of the organisation.

Firstly the new board has put together a new study program in order to correspond to the specific needs of Latvian, Baltic, and Eastern European markets. The study program is strongly orientated to practical skill development and tangible value for the participants and their communities.

Secondly, the financing of all activities now happens through projects and grants that NewDoor applies to together with international partners. All funds go specifically to project needs and are audited in accordance with international audit requirements. The organization keeps an agile approach to financial planning. The board receives no regular salaries and has no regular administrative costs outside of project activities.

NewDoor is one of the four founders of the Latvian Social Entrepreneurship Association, promoting social impact investment and civil involvement, cooperating with municipalities of Latvia, the Latvian Ministry of Welfare, the Latvian Startup Association, local businesses, and media.

In 2019 NewDoor international social entrepreneurship accelerator was nominated for the Emerging Europe Awards 2019 in the "Equality-Friendly Initiative of the Year" category.
